Funeral Reception for Oleta E. Marckres

  • United Church of Craftsbury 7 Church Lane Craftsbury Common, VT 05827 (map)

Oleta E. Marckres, 79, of Eden Mills, VT,  passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025 with family by her side, following several months of struggling with medical issues.  She was born on August 9, 1945 in Morrisville, VT to Linton Lloyd Earle and Mavis Marckres Earle.

She met the love of her life, J. Fred Marckres,  while roller skating in Eden, VT.  She and Fred shared a life long passion for dancing.  Wherever a country band was playing, they would be there kicking up their heels having the time of their life.   They were married on October 13, 1962.  They built their first home in Morrisville, VT.  Having only only 4 walls and a roof, no running water or electricity, they moved in with their six week old baby.   They were blessed with two children, Julie Marckres and Jerri (Marckres) Hurlburt.

Oleta is survived by:  her children Julie Marckres and Jerri Hurlburt and her husband, Raymond, her grandsons Adam Hurlburt (Vicky) and Alex Hurlburt (Megan) and her “adopted” grandson, Patrick Jones, her great grandchildren Maxwell and Raphael Hurlburt, Dominic, Natalia and Damien Elliott.   She is survived by her siblings: Ila (James) Touchette, Floyd (Donna) Earle, Ernest (Joyce) Earle and Barbara Earle as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, on December 15, 2019, her parents, her siblings, Wyonetta Jones, Ilene Laurendeau, Herschel Earle and Loren Earle and by her great grandson Oliver Hurlburt.

Oleta’s life consisted of community service as far back as anyone can remember.  She was a Brownie Scout leader, Junior Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader, Lamoille County SHARE program organizer and an officer in the Vermont Fiddlers Association.  She also volunteered at the Community Dinners at the United Church of Craftsbury.  Oleta's favorite pastimes were quilting, knitting, listening to good old country music as well as watching westerns.

Funeral services will be held on February 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the United Church of Craftsbury on Craftsbury Common with Pastor Kim LaRose officiating.  Should friends desire, contributions in her memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.  Online condolences  at curtis-britch.com
